Sumi Masatake Sensei (Hanshi 8 Dan) Kendo Seminar

This is a seminar invitation from the UTS Kendo Club.


The UTS Kendo Club is excited to announce a 1-day Kendo Seminar at UTS on Saturday (10AM to 5PM) on 3 June 2017, hosted by Masatake SUMI Sensei (Hanshi 8 Dan in Kendo) and Kaoru SUMI Sensei (Hanshi 5 dan in Naginata)!  There will also be extra training on Sunday 9am to 1pm at Castle Hill on Sunday 4 June.


The seminar will focus on the way of Kendo grading for all levels as well as feature a Kata and Naginata demonstration. This will be great for anyone challenging for their next Kendo grade as well as help provide coaches/teachers with useful insights and teaching instructions. There will also be an opportunity for Jigeiko with the Senseis.

10:55 – 11:00AM  Split into 3 groups (Youth, Adults and Kendo Instructors) 

11:00 – 12:30PM  Session A (All youth will be finished at 12:00) 

12:35 – 01:20PM  Lunch Break 

01:25 – 03:25PM  Session B  

03:30 – 04:30PM  Jigeiko (incl. with Sumi Sensei) 

04:35 – 05:00PM  Closing / Group Photos


Please also bring your bokuto and shoto along!


Extra Training on Sunday

For those who are super eager to do more Kendo, there is an extra competition training organised on Sunday. Details below:

Date and Time: Sunday, 4 June from 9am-1pm.

Address: Castle Hill Library-Level 1 Community Centre, 14 Pennant St, Castle Hill 2154

Cost: $20 per person, purely to cover the hall booking!

After training, there will be lunch together with Sensei at Castle Towner (shopping centre Thai Food).
